Scientific Diving Instructor
- SCIENTIFIC DIVING INSTRUCTOR (SDI) APPLICATION PROCEDURES
- Preliminary Requirements
- Applicant must be an ADSI Indonesia Instructor.
- Applicant must have sufficient scientific diving experience
(number of scientific dive logs, research experience, scientific dive training).
- CV and portfolio demonstrating teaching/mentoring experience,
underwater research, publications, or scientific reports.
- Letter of recommendation (optional but recommended) from an academic institution,
research institute, or ADSI instructor.
- Portfolio Submission and Interview
- Applicants submit: CV, scientific portfolio (research reports, publications,
dive documentation, transect/observation data), teaching experience,
dive logs, and other supporting documents to the ADSI Indonesia
Director of Scientific Diving.
- The Director and the Scientific Diving Committee review the portfolio to assess:
- Scientific and technical competence
- Pedagogical skills (teaching, mentoring)
- Safety and risk management in diving
- Contribution to the scientific diving community
(research, publications)
- If the portfolio is deemed suitable, the applicant will be invited
for an online interview.
- Interview Process:
- Held online (video conference)
- The interview panel will consist of at least two Scientific Diving
Instructors and/or the Director of Scientific Diving
- The examination material will include: teaching experience,
scientific diving training methods, training management,
safety and security, research protocol inspection,
underwater research ethics, planned contribution to the ADSI program,
and scientific diving capacity development.
- After the interview, the panel will make a recommendation:
- Acceptance as a Scientific Diving Instructor
- Revision/Re-evaluation (e.g., requesting additional portfolios,
more detailed documentation)
- Postponement
