  • SCIENTIFIC DIVING INSTRUCTOR (SDI) APPLICATION PROCEDURES
    • Preliminary Requirements
      • Applicant must be an ADSI Indonesia Instructor.
      • Applicant must have sufficient scientific diving experience
        (number of scientific dive logs, research experience, scientific dive training).
      • CV and portfolio demonstrating teaching/mentoring experience,
        underwater research, publications, or scientific reports.
      • Letter of recommendation (optional but recommended) from an academic institution,
        research institute, or ADSI instructor.
    • Portfolio Submission and Interview
      • Applicants submit: CV, scientific portfolio (research reports, publications,
        dive documentation, transect/observation data), teaching experience,
        dive logs, and other supporting documents to the ADSI Indonesia
        Director of Scientific Diving.
      • The Director and the Scientific Diving Committee review the portfolio to assess:
        • Scientific and technical competence
        • Pedagogical skills (teaching, mentoring)
        • Safety and risk management in diving
        • Contribution to the scientific diving community
          (research, publications)
      • If the portfolio is deemed suitable, the applicant will be invited
        for an online interview.
      • Interview Process:
        • Held online (video conference)
        • The interview panel will consist of at least two Scientific Diving
          Instructors and/or the Director of Scientific Diving
        • The examination material will include: teaching experience,
          scientific diving training methods, training management,
          safety and security, research protocol inspection,
          underwater research ethics, planned contribution to the ADSI program,
          and scientific diving capacity development.
      • After the interview, the panel will make a recommendation:
        • Acceptance as a Scientific Diving Instructor
        • Revision/Re-evaluation (e.g., requesting additional portfolios,
          more detailed documentation)
        • Postponement

Description

A person who has the title of diving coach, who is entitled to issue and sign a diving certificate at a diving training. One year validity until 31 December.

Obligation

  • Instructors may be qualified in any Region.
  • An instructor who travels to a different Region to be qualified, upon qualification must become an instructor member in the Region wherein the instructor resides.
  • The instructor card and certificate will be sent to the Licensee of the Region where the new instructor resides, who will forward the documentation to the instructor once the instructor becomes a member in that Region.
  • Once membership dues are paid, the instructor will be granted full instructor privilege at the level qualified for.
  • Instructors moving from one Region to another Region that are under different Licensees, for a period greater than 90 days, must obtain membership in the new Region in order to be on active teaching status in the Region.
  • Instructors completing training or crossover courses overseas will be required to demonstrate they are familiar with the environment they will be teaching in. If the instructor qualification was in a similar environment to the one in the native country no evaluation will be made. If the IEC was conducted in an environment differing from the native country an evaluation can be done by reviewing the experience of the instructor in environments similar to the one in the region.
  • If the new instructor is not familiar with diving or teaching in the type of environment in the licensed territory they may at the discretion of the licensee be required to complete an environmental acquaintance prior to teaching within their chosen country of operation. This may be as simple as a dive log review or a more comprehensive evaluation such an evaluation dive and environmental Presentations or if warranted co-teaching a portion of a course, or an entire course. The exact option will depend upon the background of the new instructor. This process, if mandated by the Licensee, will be under the direction of an IT assigned by the Licensee themselves.
  • Instructors teaching local residents a qualification course that travel to a different Region for part of the course must notify the Licensee in the different Region that they will be doing training in that Region. Permission is automatic so long as the instructor is not teaching residents of the Region being visited.
  • Instructors who wish to teach or who have been invited to teach Programs in a Region they do not reside in must.
  • Request permission of the Licensee of the Region where the course will take place. Failure to do so will result in the qualifications not being processed and internationally sanctioned disciplinary action against the instructor, ranging from probation to suspension dependent on the circumstances.
  • The Licensee may refuse permission if the activity presents a conflict of interest with other similarly qualified instructors in the Region or if there is no justification for the Programs to be taught.
  • As general rule, permission will be granted if justified.
  • Qualifications must be processed in the Region where the training is to be performed.

Obligations: ADS International Indonesia Development Technical Council
Requirements:
• Have served as an Organization Development Staff (ODS) at least once
• Assist in the development and improvement of ADS International training and education materials
• Knowledge of equipment usage procedures chamber
• Teaching Authority: Basic Diver to 2-stars Instructor

Examiner: ADS International Headquarters Team

Description: Advanced Trainer from origin level: 1-Star Instructor

Validity: 1 year
Obligations: Teach a minimum of 10 people per year.
Become an International Training Course (ITC) staff member, minimum of 2 Instructors training Course programs

Authority: Teach Snorkel Diver to Dive Master level
Requirements for instructor level advancement: Teach a minimum of 20 Dive Master divers.
Examiner: ADS International Indonesia 3-stars Instructors

Description
First Level Trainer from the previous level, namely Dive Master

Validity: 1 year

Obligations: Teach a minimum of 24 people within three (3) years
Authority: Teach snorkeling, Basic, Open Water, and Advanced Divers of ADS International Indonesia

Requirements for instructor level advancement: Teach a minimum of 24 advanced divers
Examiner: ADS International Indonesia 3-stars Instructors
